The funding covers the production of a touring exhibition celebrating the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Society in 1974.
It has been a busy few months for the Leicestershire and Rutland Family History Society (LRFHS) following the award of our Public Heritage Fund Grant in the summer to cover the production of a touring exhibition celebrating the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Society in 1974.
The exhibition includes a timeline of these years and look at genealogical research developments during the last half-century, also featuring images of local life in 1974, and stories of family history research from LRFHS members. It has now been at the following venues since June:
Leicester Central Library
Record Office for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland
Lutterworth Museum
Atkins Building Hinckley
Oadby Tennis Club (an anniversary tea was held in September 2024, for long-standing members)
Adult Education Centre, Leicester (venue for the main 50th anniversary event held on October 5th)
Welford Road Cemetery Visitors Centre (The exhibition has been on display over the last 3 weeks).
The feedback has been very positive and there have been several follow ons. For example, the Friends of Welford Road Cemetery have selected one of the stories featured, for an article in their newsletter.
The LRFHS plans to continue putting the exhibition on at further venues during the first part of 2025. If you would be interested in hosting it at a suitable venue around the county for a minimum of a two week period, please contact them at www.lrfhs.org.uk
Looking further ahead, the exhibition posters will be used at events going forward once the 50th anniversary year comes to an end.
