Leicestershire History is a new 52-page full colour magazine about the many events, objects, people and places from the city and county’s fascinating past.
Engaging, knowledgeable and entertaining, its scope ranges from the mists of prehistory to the twentieth century, via the Romans, Vikings, Medieval eras and more.
Published by the Leicestershire Archaeological and Historical Society, this magazine is for anyone who has an interest in the history of Leicester and Leicestershire.
Issue 1 will be published this July, then every six months. The magazine is available via subscription in print and/or online formats, and will be on sale in museums and visitor centres across the city and county from 5 July 2025.
Because we want to tell the many stories of Leicester and Leicestershire in an engaging way to people who may not have heard them before. We already publish an academic journal and collected essays of the history of Leicestershire, but nothing for a wider audience – until now.
We aim to always get the best person for the job. For issue 1 the authors range from curators at the British Museum to archaeologists to professional historians, and even includes a former BBC war correspondent.
The magazine is published by the Leicestershire Archaeological and Historical Society, a registered charity which has been protecting and promoting our local history since 1855.
