FAQs

  • Why a magazine?

Because we want to tell the many stories of Leicester and Leicestershire in an engaging way to people who may not have heard them before. We already publish an academic journal and collected essays of the history of Leicestershire, but nothing for a wider audience – until now.

  • Who writes the articles?

We aim to always get the best person for the job. For issue 1 the authors range from curators at the British Museum to archaeologists to professional historians, and even includes a former BBC war correspondent.

  • Who publishes the magazine?

The magazine is published by the Leicestershire Archaeological and Historical Society, a registered charity which has been protecting and promoting our local history since 1855.

  • Why does subscribing from the current issue cost more?

We take a payment when you subscribe, and then again every 6 months unless you cancel. So your subscription always pays for the next issue to be published. The higher initial payment in the 'subscribe from current issue' plan pays for a copy of the issue already out and the next copy. We have set it up this way as many people want to subscribe and ensure they get future copies, but also want the copy which other subscribers have already received. This option just 'catches you up', and you still only pay £5.99 for each copy.

  • Why is there a subscribe from 'next' issue option?

As the magazine is also on sale in museums and visitor centres, this option is for those who have already bought a copy from these venues. It allows them to subscribe from the next issue, without being sent a duplicate of the issue they already have.

  • How can I review, alter or cancel my subscription?

  • Print & online from current issue (Jul 2025)
  • £11.98 initial payment £11.98, then £5.99 every 6 months
  • Want to subscribe and get the current issue within days? This is the option for you. Future issues will also be posted as they’re published, and you’ll get the online version for free and part of your subscription! The higher initial payment covers both the current and next issue. See FAQs for more details.
