The PHF provided funds to Jim Butler at Hidden Histories Heritage Events in relation to the Leicester Riverside Festival event to commemorate the 380th anniversary of the Siege of Leicester in 1645. The grant enabled 17th century living history re-enactors to greet the public and deliver a re-enactment of Battle for the Newarke.

The event highlighted a part of Leicester’s history that many visitors may not have been familiar with. The siege not only led to the greatest bloodshed and devastation in the town’s long history, but one that would directly result in one of the most pivotal turning points in English History, the battle of Naseby. There would have been no Naseby without the siege and subsequent sacking of Leicester and the national outcry that caused.
