Hallaton Museum – New Permanent Display on Hallaton Castle

New display opens after grant from LAHS Public Heritage Fund

Hallaton Museum opens for the 2026 Season on Easter Monday – the day of the Hallaton Bottle Kicking and Hare Pie Scramble - with a new permanent display on Hallaton Castle, Motte and Bailey.

Researched by Mathew Morris, University of Leicester Archaeological Services, the display presents the evidence of its fascinating history. The Castle stands just outside the village of Hallaton, clearly viewed from the Gaulby Road. Mathew Morris describes it as ‘the finest motte and bailey castle in Leicestershire”.

Linda Jones, Secretary of Hallaton Museum, is delighted with the new display, which significantly adds to the other displays in the museum. She thanked Leicestershire Archaeological and Historical Society’s Public Heritage Fund, who funded the display, and without whose generous support it would not have been possible. She also thanked Paul Johnson of PD Graphic Communication for designing the display.

Hallaton Museum is open every Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays from Easter Monday until 4th October between the hours of 2 to 4.30pm.
