The annual LAHS Members' evening provides an opportunity for members to present the results of their own research to the Society. This year the talk will be given by LAHS Member, Denis Kenyon, co-founder of the Leicester City, County & Rutland At Risk War Memorials Project.

The Project exists to help rescue war memorials at risk of loss or damage in closed and deserted buildings, preserving, restoring and re-locating them as needed. Of equal importance is its work in helping raise awareness of the significance of war memorials through educational programs, exhibitions, and community collaborations.

In this talk, Denis will explain the inspiration behind the project, its success in the preservation and restoration of numerous war memorials throughout the two counties and importantly some of the project's aspirations for the future, which include obtaining accredited museum status and becoming a local centre of military knowledge.

No booking necessary. Entry is free of charge.

Doors open from 7pm. The lecture will take place at 7.30pm, at the Sir Bob Burgess Lecture Theatre 1, University of Leicester, University Road, Leicester (LE2 7TF)

Free parking is available in the Danielle Brown Sports Centre car park which is accessed through the entrance on University Road closest to Welford Road (entrance 1). There is also additional parking available closer to the Bob Burgess Building at the Freemen’s Common Multi-Storey Car Park but parking charges apply.
