AGM and Lecture: 'Women in the Ordained Ministry', Rev. Janet Gasper, Benefice of Knighton

Reverend Janet Gasper will examine the history of women in Christian ministry, specifically within the Anglican Church. A brief examination of women in the Bible and the role of women in Christianity from the time of Emperor Constantine, will be followed by a look at the nineteenth century, when women’s ministry in the church became better recognised with the role of Deaconesses. Finally Rev Gasper will look at the journey to priesthood for women in the later 20th century, sharing some of her own experiences. She has been ordained for twenty seven years and had sixteen years as a Reader prior to Ordination. She has served in the Dioceses of Worcester, Hereford, Birmingham and Leicester.
